1 Million Books To Help Children Read
Road Show To Tour America
Cybervillage, USA is mobilizing minority business owners across the country to take a positive step to help low-income children with weakness in speech, language and reading skills. Most experts agree that the key to life-long literacy is to establish the basic elements of reading instruction – phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension – in the primary grades. But this isn’t always easy in low-income neighborhoods where children live in a wordless environment, without books in their homes or in the preschool and after-school programs they attend, making them at high risk of reading and school failure.
Through a collaborative effort of corporate sponsors, minority business leaders, pre-kindergarten classrooms and after-school programs, children in disenfranchised communities will have the opportunity to receive tutoring and free interactive books designed to improve school readiness and build language skills. Bailey the Bookworm and his team of tutors will literally hit the road to promote a love for reading in Urban America. The I Love to Read™ Literacy Road Show intends to impact one million children and their parents in 50 major cities over the next three years.
